President Benigno S. Aquino III joined his co-leaders from the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) as the 25th ASEAN Summit and Related Summits officially came to a close.

The ceremony was held at the Myanmar International Convention Center (MICC) which has been the venue of the two-day summit. This year’s theme is “Moving Forward in Unity to a Peaceful and Prosperous Community.”

In the Chairman’ statement, the ASEAN Heads of State/Government had productive discussions “focusing on strengthening ASEAN institutions and ASEAN-led mechanisms in the evolving regional architecture, maintaining and enhancing ASEAN centrality, developing the ASEAN Community’s Post-2015 Vision.” Likewise, the leaders exchanged views on regional and international issues, and strengthening external relations and partnerships.

After the closing ceremony, Myanmar President U Thein Sein handed over the ASEAN chairmanship to Prime Minister Najib Razak of Malaysia.
