President Benigno S. Aquino III participated in the 40th Anniversary of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN)-Australia Commemorative Summit that was attended by his fellow leaders, the ASEAN Secretary General and The Honourable Tony Abbot MP, Prime Minister of Australia.

The discussion underlined the need of enhancing people-to-people contact to further strengthen the ASEAN-Australia dialogue relations, promoting the rule of law, democracy, good governance and human rights, encouraging cooperation in inter-faith and inter-civilization dialogue, strengthening cooperation in combating transnational crimes and enhancing maritime cooperation.

They also exchanged views on the progress achieved so far in the ASEAN-Australia dialogue in the areas of political, security, economic and socio-cultural cooperation.
