President Benigno S. Aquino III held a bilateral meeting with Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe on the sidelights of the 25th Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) Summit and Related Summits in Nay Pyi Taw, Myanmar.
In his brief remarks, the President expressed his sincerest sympathies to the people of Japan for the sudden eruption of Mount Ontake last 27 September 2014 that killed over 50 people. He added that the Philippines is ready to extend any form of assistance that it can provide.
Moreover, he relayed the country’s appreciation to its strategic partner for its continuous assistance and support to areas devastated by super Typhoon Haiyan that struck central Philippines last November. In this line, the President said that he wishes to further enhance the disaster risk reduction and management program between the two nations.
For his part, Prime Minister Abe said that he is happy with the way bilateral and economic relations are progressing between the two countries and that the Philippines remains to be a strategic partner of Japan.
