President Benigno S. Aquino III arrived at the Myanmar International Convention Center (MICC) which is the venue of the two-day 25th Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) Summit and Related Summits.

According to Ambassador Alex Chua, Philippine envoy to Myanmar, the President would expound on the country’s priorities on disaster adaptation and mitigation, maritime security, and the need for the regional bloc to focus on micro, small and medium enterprises.

“As a founding member of ASEAN, the Philippines will push for ASEAN centrality as well as important regional issues as economic integration and ASEAN Community building.  The 25th ASEAN Summit is expected to discuss pressing issues in the region, such as the ASEAN integration.  The President, together with other ASEAN Heads of State/Government will discuss the various preparations being made to realize an integrated ASEAN that aims to benefit the peoples in the region, including the Filipinos in Myanmar, in terms of unimpeded movement of people, goods and services in the region,” Ambassador Chua said.
