From China, President Benigno S. Aquino III arrived in Nay Pyi Taw, Myanmar at around 11:10 pm on board Philippine Airlines flight PR001 to formally begin his participation to the 25th Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) Summit and Related Summits from 12-13 November 2014.
The President was met at the airport by H.E. Alex Chua, Philippine Ambassador to Myanmar, Defense and Armed Forces Attache Colonel Edgardo de Leon, and officials from the Myanmar government.
Among the Cabinet members comprising the Philippine delegation are Foreign Affairs (DFA) Secretary Albert Del Rosario, Budget and Management (DBM) Secretary Florencio “Butch” Abad, Finance (DOF) Secretary Cesar Purisima, Trade and Industry (DTI) Secretary Gregory Domingo, National Economic and Development Authority (NEDA) Director-General and Socio-Economic Planning Secretary Arsenio Balisacan, Presidential Management Staff (PMS) Secretary Julia Andrea Abad, and Presidential Communications Operations Office (PCOO) Secretary Herminio “Sonny” Coloma.
This year’s ASEAN theme is “Moving Forward in Unity to a Peaceful and Prosperous Community” which emphasizes the solidarity of ASEAN as the first and foremost ingredient in order for the regional bloc “to be credible in the world and to be fully integrated into a community.”
