President Benigno S. Aquino III extended his appreciation to New Zealand Prime Minister John Key for their continuous support in the peace process and their assistance to the victims of Typhoon Haiyan during a bilateral meeting held at the Philippine Embassy of Beijing, People’s Republic of China.

According to Foreign Affairs Secretary Albert Del Rosario, President Aquino updated Prime Minister Key with the efforts the Philippine government has keenly engaged in to build back better for the victims of Typhoon Haiyan and the provinces that had been damaged by it.

Fostering trade relations between the two countries were also discussed with the Philippines seeking continuous support from New Zealand in the dairy industry and technical assistance to improve mussel production in the country. The President also commended the base of relations with New Zealand particularly the expansion of air links between the Philippines and their country.

On the other hand, New Zealand thanked the Philippines for New Zealand’s candidacy in the UN Security Council.

Joining Prime Minister John Key were Trade Minister Tim Groser, Chief of Staff Wayne Eagleson, Foreign Affairs and Trade Secretary John Allen, Deputy Secretary David Walker, Foreign Policy Adviser Taha Macpherson, Senior APEC Official Alison Mann, Private Secretary Chris Langley and Unit Manager Wendy Matthews.
