President Benigno S. Aquino III conferred the Order of Lakandula with the rank of Grand Officer to United Nations Coordinator Dr. Luiza Carvalho in her farewell call in Malacañan Palace.

Dr. Carvalho has been the Executive Representative of the United Nations Secretary General, where she headed the UN Country Team in the Philippines and served as the Resident Representative of UNDP Philippines. She was given the award for her significant contribution in further strengthening the Philippine-United Nations relations and for her outstanding and dedicated service in the field of humanitarian works, peace and development and empowerment of women, among others.

The Order of Lakandula with the rank of Grand Officer is a Presidential award conferred upon an individual who has demonstrated a life-long dedication to the political and civic welfare of society; or upon a Charge d’ Affaires, e.p., Minister, Minister Counselor, Consul General heading a consular post, Executive Director, or other person of a rank similar or equivalent to the foregoing.
