Madrid, Spain
10 September 2014

Also known as the Royal Palace of Madrid, Palacio Real was built in the 18th century as ordered by Spain’s former King Philip V. It used to be the official residence of the Spanish Royal Family after it chose to reside at Palacio dela Zarzuela. It is now only used for state ceremonies such as courtesy calls, presentation of credentials, etc. The last monarch who lived here was Alfonso XIII. It is the largest palace in Europe by floor area.
