Avenida De Las Islas Filipinas corner C/Santander

A replica of Dr. Jose Rizal’s monument at the Luneta Park in Manila. It was built in 1996 as the friendship between the Philippines and Spain broadened. It was inaugurated on December 5, 1996 to commemorate the 100th year of his death and was part of the celebration marking the centennial of Philippine independence from Spain. The latter itself is honored by the Philippine national hero’s presence in Madrid where he developed his scientific, artistic and literary skills. On one side of the monument is written the last poem of Rizal called Mi Ultimo Adios (My Last Farewell) which he wrote in Spanish.
