President Benigno S. Aquino III visited Puerto Galera in Oriental Mindoro for a briefing on several major Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) infrastructure projects in the island.
Public Works Secretary Rogelio L. Singson gave the project briefing which includes the construction of the 18-kilometer road that connects the provinces of Oriental and Occidental Mindoro from Puerto Galera to Abra de Ilog.
Other infrastructure projects mentioned include the development of 152 farm-to-market roads, 63 irrigation channels and the construction of post-harvest facilities like hand tractors and flatbed dryers which benefited over 35,000 farmers.
The President was joined by Interior Secretary Mar Roxas and local government officials headed by Oriental Mindoro Governor Alfonso Umali Jr. and Occidental Mindoro Governor Mario Gene J. Mendiola.
Also present were Rep. Salvador C. Leachon (1st District, Oriental Mindoro), Rep. Reynaldo V. Umali (2nd District, Oriental Mindoro), Rep. Josephine Ramirez-Sato (Occidental Mindoro) and Mayor Hubbert Christoper A. Dolor of Puerto Galera.
