Joined by Public Works and Highways (DPWH) Secretary Rogelio Singson, Interior and Local Government (DILG) Sec. Mar Roxas, Metro Manila Development Authority (MMDA) Chairman Francis Tolentino, Presidential Legislative Liaison Office (PLLO) Secretary Manuel Mamba and Tuao Mayor Francisco Mamba Jr., President Benigno S. Aquino III led the inauguration of the newly constructed Ninoy Aquino Bridge and its connectivity road network in the municipality of Tuao, Cagayan province.

The President unveiled the project marker and boarded an open-type jeep for the inaugural drive through starting at the southwestern part up to the northeastern approach of the bridge which serves as an inter-regional linkage between Regions I, II and Cordillera Administrative Region (CAR).

The Ninoy Aquino Bridge has a length of 360 meters.  Other bridges that were inaugurated included the Malummin Bridge which has a 40-meter length and the Angang Bridge which is 20 meters long.

In his speech, President Aquino explained that aside from the significantly reduced travel time to Region I and CAR, the project will also boost the tourism and economy of the regions.

“Kongkretong patunay ang proyektong ito sa makabuluhang transpormasyong dulot ng pagtahak natin sa tuwid na daan. Kung dati, isinantabi ang kapakanan ng marami samantalang panlalamang ang iilan, ngayon, natutugunan ang tunay na pangangailangan ng taumbayan…Ang hangad po natin: kaunlarang nagbibigay ng benepisyo sa nakakarami,” President Aquino said.

The construction of the project’s first phase started on November 30, 2010 and was completed on July 13, 2013. The allocation for the construction was P599.40 million.
