 President Benigno S. Aquino III was received by President U Thein Sein of the Republic Union of Myanmar, the current chair of ASEAN, together with his spouse Madame Daw Khin Khin Win at the Myanmar International Convention Center (MICC).

President Aquino was ushered in together with the other participating ASEAN leaders for a group photo session before proceeding to the welcome dinner hosted by the Myanmar President.

The Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) was formed in 1967 by the Philippines, Indonesia, Malaysia and Singapore to build a stronger economic cooperation and regional stability among its member countries. Brunei joined in 1984, Vietnam in 1995, while Laos and Myanmar (formerly Burma) were admitted into full membership in July 1997 as ASEAN celebrated its 30th anniversary. Cambodia became ASEAN’s tenth member in 1999.
