President Benigno S. Aquino III led the ceremonial turnover of 66,813 completed classrooms that were constructed as part of the Public-Private Partnership for School Infrastructure Project (PSIP) at the Carmona National High School in Cavite.
President Aquino, together with Education Secretary Armin Luistro, presented a classroom replica to students of CNHS as a symbol of the government’s accomplishment in addressing the critical shortage of basic educational facilities nationwide.
In his statement, the President said that besides the new schoolrooms, his administration has made a significant number to fill up the shortages in teachers, books and armchairs.
“Ang halos animnapu’t dalawang milyong kakulangan sa libro, burado na. Ang dalawa’t kalahating milyong backlog sa upuan, nairaos na rin po. Mula 2010 hanggang 2013 naman, nagdagdag na tayo ng halos isandaan at tatlong libong guro. Kung isasama pa rito ang apatnapu’t tatlong libong volunteer sa kinder at ang mga gurong empleyado sa LGU, napunuan na rin natin ang humigit-kumulang isandaan at apatnapu’t anim na libong kakulangan sa guro,” he remarked.
He thanked and credited the said accomplishment to agency partners in government, local government units, private sector and foreign donors in his speech.
Accompanied by Department of Public Works and Highways Cavite District Engineer Oscar de la Cruz and other local officials, President Aquino also made a brief inspection of a two-storey eight-room building where Grade Eight and 4th Year classes are being held.
As of December 2013, the Department of Education achieved more than triple the total number of classrooms constructed from Year 2005 to early half of 2010.
Cavite Governor Jonvic Remulla Jr., PAGCOR chairman Cristino ‘Bong’ Naguiat Jr., Carmona Mayor Dahlia Loyola, Vice Mayor Elmer Reyes, DepEd Undersecretary for Operations Rizalino Rivera, DepEd Undersecretary for Finance Francis Varela and Cavite district representatives were also present during the occasion.
