President Benigno S. Aquino III welcomed United Kingdom Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs William Hague MP in Malacañang.

The British Foreign Minister is in the country on the invitation of Foreign Affairs Secretary Albert del Rosario. In his two-day visit, they will hold a bilateral meeting after the call to discuss UK’s participation in the reconstruction program for communities that had been devastated by Typhoon Yolanda (Haiyan).

Other topics to be discussed are UK’s role in the implementation of the Mindanao peace agreement, extradition and mutual legal assistance, combating transnational crimes and expanding cooperation in trade, investments and tourism.

Secretary Hague will also meet prominent Filipino businessmen and CEOs to exchange views on how to further expand the business partnership between Philippine and British companies.

Also present during the call were UK Ambassador to the Philippines Asif Ahmad, Director for Asia Pacific, Foreign and Commonwealth Office Stephen Lillie, Trade and Industry Secretary Gregory Domingo and Philippine Ambassador to UK Enrique Manalo.
