United States Senator for Florida Marco Rubio met with President Benigno S. Aquino III as he paid a courtesy call to the Chief Executive in Malacañang to discuss fiscal, security and other issues including the South China Sea dispute and the ongoing recovery efforts in the typhoon Yolanda-affected areas.
Senator Rubio is the highest-ranking member of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee’s East Asian and Pacific Affairs Subcommittee and a member of the Select Committee on Intelligence. He is currently on a week-long trip to Asia that includes visits to Japan, Philippines and South Korea.
Joining him in the courtesy call are U.S. Ambassador to the Philippines Philip Goldberg, Counselor for Foreign and National Security Affairs Jamie Fly, the Senator’s Chief of Staff Cesar Conda who is a Filipino-American and Steve Weston of the U.S. Embassy in Manila.
