President Benigno S. Aquino III lauded the efforts and sacrifices of the Department of Social Welfare and Development employees when he graced the agency’s 63rd anniversary celebration in Quezon City.

In his speech, the President expressed his gratitude and admiration for DSWD, especially after the calamities that struck the country last year. “Marami kayong hinarap na trahedya at pasakit pero nananatili kayong tagapagsulong ng pagbangon ng mga kapwa ninyo Pilipino,” he said.

He also gave recognition to social workers Danny Bitara of DSWD Region V and Noemi Mongaya of DSWD Region VIII who survived the Huey helicopter crash on December 6 while on their way to a relief operation for Typhoon ‘Yolanda’ victims in La Paz, Leyte.

Aside from social work, DSWD is also one of the administration’s leading agencies responsible for alleviating poverty in the country with programs like the Conditional Cash Transfer (CCT) that has served at least four million families last year.
