President Benigno S. Aquino III conferred the Order of Sikatuna, Rank of Datu with Gold Distinction to former Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) president Dr. Sadako Ogata who is currently Japan’s Advisor to the Minister of Foreign Affairs and Special Advisor to the JICA president.

Dr. Ogata was given distinction for her dedicated leadership as president of JICA which contributed to the overall social and economic development of the Philippines. During her term as JICA president, Dr. Ogata adopted the betterment of human security in the country, and peace and development specifically in the Mindanao region. With her efforts, Japan’s resources and manpower were used to assist the Philippines during calamities.

In 2006, Dr. Ogata was bestowed the Order of Lakandula with the Rank of Maringal na Pinuno (Grand Officer) in Malacañang.

Before the conferment ceremonies, Dr. Ogata paid a courtesy call to President Aquino.
