President Benigno S. Aquino III marked the country’s 150th celebration of the birth anniversary of the ‘Ama ng Katipunan’, Gat Andres Bonifacio, saying Filipinos should relive his bravery and sacrifices for the Philippine independence.

This year’s theme is “Bonifacio: Dangal at Kabayanihan” and it is spearheaded by the National Historical Commission of the Philippines (NHCP). This year’s event will hold various activities to commemorate the life of Bonifacio such as fun runs, film showings, lecture series, and educational tours to different Bonifacio sites in the National Capital Region (NCR) and in the provinces of Rizal and Cavite. Previously, NHCP launched the commemorative coin and stamp, as well as the Museo ng Katipunan, in Pinaglabanan, San Juan City.

In connection with the super typhoon that devastated the country recently, President Aquino compared how the courage of Bonifacio reflected those of the victims of ‘Yolanda’ with their strong will to pass the calamity. “Anumang tayog ng hamon, laging may pag-asa, laging may solusyon sa mga problemang kinakaharap sa lipunan,” the President said.

In the end, President Aquino reminded everyone that the legacy left by Andres Bonifacio will serve as a reminder to everyone of the continuing struggle of Filipinos to achieve the nation’s development.

“Hangga’t mayroong nananatiling nakatindig na bantayog ni Andres Bonifacio, hangga’t may bandila tayong matayog na nakapaskil sa kalangitan, ituloy lamang natin ang laban para sa mas makabuluhang kinabukasan ng buong sambayanan,” President Aquino concluded.
