Less than a week after his first visit in typhoon-destructed areas in Central Philippines, President Benigno S. Aquino III re-visited Tacloban City, Leyte to inspect the situation of disaster-afflicted Taclobanons.
The President also paid a visit in the towns of Ormoc, Palo and Alangalang in Leyte as well as in Guiuan in Eastern Samar and Basey in Western Samar to check the status of victims’ recovery from the onslaught of Typhoon Yolanda.
The President personally assessed the relief goods distribution as well as the retrieval and rescue operations conducted by the disaster management team. He was there to assure the people that the government is rolling-up its sleeves to make sure that they receive basic needs and proper assistance.
He is constantly briefed by the members of Task Force Yolanda on the current condition of affected provinces in Visayas. The task force is composed of the Philippine National Police (PNP), Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) and the Regional Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (RDRRMC).
President Aquino first visited Tacloban City on Sunday, November 10, two days after Typhoon Yolanda (international name Haiyan) devastated the Visayas region. He also went to Roxas City to check the extent of damage in the province of Capiz.
Typhoon Yolanda is known to be the worst typhoon to ever hit the Philippines and the planet in 2013. International organizations and foreign countries witnessed the vast and massive destruction caused by the typhoon and this led to pouring out of monetary and in-kind assistance. Donors consist of the United Nations, United States, United Kingdom, Australia, UN World Food Program, UNICEF, Japan, Canada, China, Taiwan, ASEAN, Australia, Belgium, Denmark, European Union, Germany, Hungary, Indonesia, Israel, Italy, Malaysia, The Netherlands, New Zealand, Norway, Russia, Saudi Arabia, Singapore, Spain, South Korea, Sweden, Switzerland, Taiwan, Turkey, United Arab Emirates, United Nations Children’s Fund, American Red Cross, World Vision, Mercy Corps, Doctors Without Borders, Vatican, Ireland, Vietnam, NBA and NBA Players Association. Total cash donations reached to P11, 654, 775, 900 according to the government website Foreign Aid Transparency Hub (FAITH) as of November 19.
