President Benigno S. Aquino III visited five food repacking centers especially set up to meet the target of 140,000 food packs daily that will be sent to the victims of super typhoon ‘Yolanda’ (international name: Haiyan) in the Visayas region.
One of these is the Cargo Area in Pasay City where he urged the volunteers to fast track their work and give it their all due to the tremendous need of their countrymen. He said that the victims need to feel “na hindi sila napabayaan, humupa yung tension at di maging desperado.”
The President also informed the volunteers that an estimated 2.3 million people are affected, of which 275,000 families do not have the capacity to feed themselves. Each food pack, he added, is good for two days per family. As of the moment, the victims are eating rice released by the National Food Authority.
He also relayed his appreciation to the volunteers for their enormous assistance, saying that “napapabilis ang kalinga ng buong Pilipinas at ang magagawa ng gobyerno.”
