President Benigno S. Aquino III visited the Department of Social Welfare and Development’s National Resource Operations Center (NROC), one of five food repacking centers especially set up to meet the target of 140,000 food packs daily that will be sent to the victims of super typhoon ‘Yolanda’ (international name: Haiyan) in the Visayas region.
The President praised the volunteers for their effort and said that a total of 92,000 food packs have already been gathered at the NROC since Finance Secretary Cesar Purisima took over the operations yesterday.
He also reminded them that it has been a week since Yolanda struck, leaving the victims with no basic necessities and the areas with no electricity and means of communication. At present, the national government is still looking for additional trucks and other vehicles within Leyte province that will bring the food packs to the victims.
