Leaders of the Brunei-Indonesia-Malaysia-Philippines East ASEAN Growth Area (BIMP-EAGA), including President Benigno S. Aquino III, met in another meeting after the 22nd ASEAN Summit Retreat Session to discuss further bilateral cooperation among the group.

In a written statement released by the ASEAN Summit Chair, it is stated that ASEAN reaffirmed the significance of the initiatives of sub-regional groups which include the BIMP-EAGA in supplementing the efforts under the ASEAN Economic Community (AEC) and in recognizing various number of business opportunities to attain an economic comfort for the people. Thus, the association encouraged stronger collaboration between ASEAN and BIMP-EAGA, and other sub-regional groups.
