President Benigno S. Aquino III led the inspection of the P7.853-billion Laguindingan Airport Development Project when he came to visit the province of Misamis Oriental for a meeting with its local leaders and the community.
He was accompanied and given a briefing by Transportation and Communications Secretary Joseph Emilio Abaya and Laguindingan Airport Manager Edgardo Mangalili.
According to President Aquino, the new airport will be able to accommodate 1.6 million tourist arrivals every year thus increasing opportunities for more jobs and employment.
Dubbed as the ‘northern gateway to Mindanao,’ the new airport set to open in April this year has ongoing civil works construction amounting to more than P5.489 billion.
Other components of the project include air navigation system and support facilities, consulting services, construction services, construction of access road, right-of-way acquisition and a resettlement site at Barangay Tubajon in Laguindingan.
En route to Cagayan de Oro City, the President also conducted an aerial inspection on the implementation of the Cagayan De Oro River Basin (Flood Control) Project.
