President Benigno S. Aquino III noted the significance of the assembly in forming a more cohesive force against corruption, as he graced the 5th Global Conference of the Global Organization of Parliamentarians Against Corruption (GOPAC) held at the Philippine International Convention Center in Pasay City.

In his speech, the President addressed the parliamentarians from different parts of the world that eliminating corruption and reforming the system can be achieved by sharing common goals. “As parliamentarians, this is your task, and perhaps you will be interested in the polices that have gotten us to where we are now, and which can also form the basis of change in your respective countries,” he said.

The President also emphasized the important role the legislation is playing in promoting positive and meaningful changes, as they help encourage good and honest governance.

Joining the President were Vice President Jejomar Binay, Senate President Juan Ponce Enrile, GOPAC Chair Dr. Naser Al Sane, Southeast Asian Parliamentarians Against Corruption (SEAPAC) Chairperson Senator Edgardo Angara, Justice Secretary Leila De Lima and House Speaker Feliciano Belmonte Jr.

GOPAC is an international network of parliamentarians dedicated to combat corruption and to uphold good governance. It comprises of members from more than 35 countries in all regions of the world.
