President Benigno S. Aquino III underscored the bravery and dedication demonstrated by the country’s military force, when he led the 79th anniversary celebration of the Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) in Quezon City.

In his speech, the President imparted the good news that had been awaiting the uniformed men. The Senate passed a bill on increasing AFP’s subsistence allowance from Php90 – Php150, of which he promised to sign immediately upon receiving.

In addition, he mentioned a few of the plans and reforms that will benefit the members of the Armed Forces and their families: housing projects, livelihood programs, pension system and the like. “Ang buod po ng lahat ng ating pagsisikap: Nais nating isulong ang Sandatahang Lakas ng Pilipinas na mas moderno, mas maaasahan, at tinitingala ng buong mundo,” he said.

With the theme, “Sandatahang Lakas: Ika-79 taong tapat na paglilingkod tungo sa Kapayapaan, Kaunlaran at Kasaganahan”, 28 outstanding soldiers and civilian employees were recognized for their valuable services, contributions, achievements and acts of heroism.

Soon after the event, the Commander-in-Chief proceeded to the AFP Theater where he was presented a model display of the recently purchased FA-50 Aircraft by Mr. Sung Yung Ha, President and CEO of Korea Aerospace Industries, Ltd.

The FA-50 Aircraft is a light combat version of the T-50 Golden Eagle supersonic advanced jet trainer and light attack aircraft. Amounting to Php18.9 billion, two of the 12 units purchased will be delivered next year.
