President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. presided over the 6th Legislative Executive Development Advisory Council (LEDAC) Meeting at the Kalayaan Hall in Malacañan Palace.
Today’s meeting focused on the status of priority measures that have already been enacted into law and those set to be passed before the year ends.
Senate President Francis ‘Chiz’ Escudero and House Speaker Ferdinand Martin Romualdez reported that five (5) priority measures have already been passed into law: Republic Act (R.A.) No. 12009 or the New Government Procurement Act; R.A. No. 12010 or the Anti-Financial Account Scamming Act (AFASA); R.A. No. 12021 or the Magna Carta of Filipino Seafarers; the Anti-Agricultural Economic Sabotage Act that will be signed on 26 September 2024; and the Value Added Tax (VAT) on Digital Services set to be signed on October 2024.
House Speaker Romualdez enumerated the passage of five (5) more priority measures by December, including Amendments to the Foreign Investor’s Long-term Lease, Agrarian Reform Law, Universal Health Care (UHC) Law, Electric Power Industry Reform Act (EPIRA) Law, and the new Department of Water Bill.
Senate President Escudero emphasized that the list of priority bills approved by LEDAC was an accumulation of proposed legislation coming from the Executive Branch, as well as Members of the Senate and House of Representatives. He underscored that these measures undergo thorough deliberation, study and process, all for the welfare and development of the country. He also conveyed that the Senate and House of Representatives still have about 41 remaining session days until the 19th Congress ends.
