President Rodrigo Roa Duterte keynoted the celebration of the ‘69th Araw ng Ipil’ as he attended the founding anniversary of the Municipality of Ipil in Zamboanga Sibugay Province.
In his speech, President Duterte confirmed that he already signed the Bangsamoro Organic Law (BOL), formerly known as the Bangsamoro Basic Law (BBL), which aims to grant autonomy to Muslim-dominated regions in Mindanao.
He also announced the appointment of Supreme Court Associate Justice Samuel Martires as the new Ombudsman. The Chief Executive urged the new Ombudsman to “do what is right.”
Likewise, President Duterte thanked the Ipil locals for supporting him to become President. He vowed to uphold his campaign promises so that the Filipino people could live a more comfortable life during his term.
“I am in the process of fulfilling my promise to you. One is [stopping] corruption,” he said.
He also cited the harmful effects of illegal mining and smuggling, and called for the immediate halt of the aforementioned illegal operations.
“The only way to settle this thing about smuggling is to just simply to stop it altogether,” he said.
