Recognizing their determination in pursuing quality education amidst pressure, President Benigno S. Aquino III lauded the 232 graduating high school students of the Philippine Science High School (PSHS) when he led the academy’s 46th Commencement Exercises and 50th Founding Anniversary held in Quezon City.
In line with PSHS’s contributions over the years, President Aquino imparted in his remarks a few of the key areas where science had played a great part in the country’s development like the early warning systems developed to monitor floodwaters.
He also mentioned that a group of experts will be summoned by the Department of Science & Technology to closely evaluate technologies that will respond to people’s needs and specialists based on the assessments done by the University of the Philippines – National Institute of Geological Sciences on contracts related to dredging rivers like the Pasig River, thereby shunning tendencies of corruption.
“Sinanay kayo sa agham para pagdating ng panahong kayo na ang namumuno, siguradong nakatuntong sa katuwiran at katotohanan ang mga desisyong makakaapekto sa ating mga kababayan,” he added.
Science and Technology Secretary Mario Montejo, PSHS alumnus and Transportation and Communications Secretary Joseph Emilio Abaya and Education Secretary Armin Luistro were also present during the graduation rites.
