President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr., together with his fellow leaders from the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) and Dialogue Partners, discussed inclusive economic recovery and building resilient and sustainable ASEAN in the post-COVID-19 era during the 2nd ASEAN Global Dialogue in Phnom Penh, Cambodia.

The President pressed for the re-skilling and upskilling of micro, small and medium-sized enterprises (MSMEs) in digital trade and technologies to aid them in researching international sales opportunities, build a global business network and market their products overseas.

He relayed that the Philippines led the development of the Declaration of the Digital Transformation of Education Systems in ASEAN with the support of the ASEAN Secretariat and UNICEF-East Asia and Pacific Regional Office (EAPRO). This is to ensure that the peoples of ASEAN, most especially the women and youth, will be equipped with the relevant skills, competencies and values in addressing the challenges of the changing and modern world.

The Chief Executive also urged his fellow leaders to support the fast conclusion of the Global Goal on Adaptation work program in responding to climate change as it is an issue that concerns every citizen, not only in the ASEAN Region but in the entire world.

The ASEAN Global Dialogue was Cambodia’s initiative as ASEAN Chair for 2022. Heads of several global and regional institutions were also in attendance to provide insights and share in-depth views on the way forward for the regional bloc.
