President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. convened with Leaders from the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) and newly elected Japanese Prime Minister Ishiba Shigeru during the 27th ASEAN-Japan Summit at the National Convention Centre in Vientiane, Lao People’s Democratic Republic (PDR).
In his intervention, President Marcos Jr. highlighted the rising transnational challenges threatening peace and stability in Southeast Asia, citing unilateral actions in the East and South China Seas as significant risks.
The President called on Leaders to reaffirm its commitment to promoting maritime security, safeguarding territorial integrity and advancing disarmament initiatives. He also lauded Japan’s efforts in fostering peace through platforms such as the ASEAN Regional Forum and ASEAN Defense Ministers’ Meeting Plus, underscoring the importance of continued cooperation to ensure regional security and stability.
