President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. highlighted the pressing need for cooperative dialogue and urgent action regarding the heightened tensions in the South China Sea during the 27th Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN)-China Summit at the National Convention Centre in Vientiane, Lao People’s Democratic Republic (PDR).

Speaking to fellow ASEAN Leaders and Chinese Premier Li Qiang, President Marcos Jr. emphasized that while the ASEAN-China relationship has seen encouraging developments, it cannot be separated from the ongoing strategic challenges in the disputed waters. He also called for an accelerated pace in the negotiations regarding the ASEAN-China Code of Conduct (COC).

As the Summit continues, President Marcos Jr. reaffirmed the Philippines’ commitment to deepening and expanding ASEAN-China relations, aiming to contribute to long-term peace, development and cooperation within the Region.
