President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. approved key irrigation and bridge projects aimed at enhancing economic mobility and disaster response during the 23rd National Economic and Development Authority (NEDA) Board Meeting at the State Dining Room in Malacañan Palace.
These projects include the urgent implementation of the PhP37.5 billion Ilocos Norte-Ilocos Sur-Abra Irrigation Project (INISAIP) and the Accelerated Bridge Construction Project for Greater Economic Mobility and Calamity Response (ABC Project).
During the meeting, President Marcos Jr. emphasized the long-overdue nature of the INISAIP that aims to benefit Ilocos Norte, Ilocos Sur and Abra by providing irrigation to 14,672 hectares of land in the wet season and 13,256 hectares in the dry season using the Palsiguan River as the main water source. The Project, which includes a hydroelectric component, is set for implementation from 2025 to 2030 and is expected to benefit 32,604 families.
Additionally, the ABC Project will construct seven (7) bridges and 22 calamity response bridges to alleviate traffic congestion and provide alternate routes during disasters. With a total cost of PhP25.681 billion, this project will be funded through Official Development Assistance (ODA) and is scheduled for implementation from January 2025 to December 2029.
