Participation of President Benigno S. Aquino III to the
22nd APEC Economic Leaders’ Meeting (AELM)

President Benigno S. Aquino III is set to participate in the 22nd Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) Summit in Beijing, People’s Republic of China from November 9-11.
With this year’s theme, “Shaping the Future through Asia-Pacific Partnership”, APEC leaders will discuss four priorities: Advancing Regional Economic Integration, Promoting Innovative Development, Economic Reform and Growth, and Strengthening Comprehensive Connectivity and Infrastructure Development. He will likewise hold bilateral meetings with leaders from other economic zones to discuss issues of mutual concerns, specifically to promote trade liberation and facilitation, economic technical cooperation, people-to-people connectivity and structural reforms.
The President will also conduct a dialogue with members of the APEC Business Advisory Council (ABAC) to articulate the nation’s initiatives on promoting disaster resilience, small, micro and medium enterprises (SMMEs), financial inclusion and domestic governance.
President Aquino will also serve as a panelist for the session on Economic Reforms for Sustainable Competitiveness in the APEC CEO Summit, a premier business event attended by distinguished global CEOs from the Asia-Pacific region,. He is expected to share Philippine strategies, initiatives and accomplishments on this area.
During the Leaders Retreat, he will share his views on advancing regional economic integration, strengthening comprehensive connectivity and infrastructure development, and promoting innovative development, economic reform and growth.
On its conclusion, APEC Leaders are expected to adopt the 22nd APEC Leaders’ Declaration. China will also turn-over the APEC chairmanship to the Philippines as country host for the 2015 APEC Summit.
After his attendance, President Aquino will proceed to Myanmar to attend the 25th ASEAN Summit and Related Meetings to be held on 12-13 November.
This year marks the 25th anniversary of the APEC Summit since it began as an informal dialogue group in 1989. Philippines is one of the founding members that also included Australia, Brunei Darussalam, Canada, Indonesia, Japan, Korea, Malaysia, New Zealand, Singapore, Thailand and the United States. Since then, member economies has increased to 21 with the addition of China, Hong Kong, China and Chinese Taipei, Mexico, Papua New Guinea, Chile, Peru, Russia and Viet Nam.
