Key government officials addressed environmental protection and disaster risk reduction during the second session of this year’s Post-State of the Nation Address (SONA) Discussions held at the Hilton Hotel in Pasay City on July 23, 2024.
Various topics were tackled focusing on improving Disaster Risk Reduction Management (DRRM) through comprehensive planning and policy-making, and highlighting the role of local governments and communities in DRRM implementation.
Officials also explored the ‘Kalinisan sa Bagong Pilipinas’ program, a nationwide campaign promoting cleanliness and environmental stewardship, as a vital component in reducing the impact of natural disasters.
The Disaster Response Command Center was emphasized as a key hub for coordinating efforts, sharing real-time information, allocating resources and deploying emergency services to enhance the country’s disaster response capabilities.
Finally, the discussions underscored the crucial importance of enhancing the Philippines’ climate resiliency by investing in sustainable infrastructure, protecting natural ecosystems and adopting climate-smart agricultural practices.
