President Rodrigo Roa Duterte acknowledged the role of every local government unit in nation building when he graced the 2017 League of Municipalities of the Philippines (LMP) General Assembly held at the Grand Ballroom of Manila Hotel.

Addressing all local government heads present, the President underscored the importance of his administration’s drive in promoting and implementing a clean and honest government.

“Corruption in the government must stop… For as long as I am here, for as long as I am tasked to protect the Filipino, I will do it,” he said.

The Chief Executive also urged them to help him in leading the country towards development, citing Davao as an example and how the city has progressed during his mayoral stint.

In fighting criminality and the illegal trade of drugs in Davao City, he mentioned that one of the measures done by the local government under his term is the installment of CCTV cameras around the city, and encouraged LMP members to avail themselves of the said technology as well.

“Iyan lang ang mensahe ko sa inyo, tulungan niyo ako kasi Pilipino itong nakataya dito,” said President Duterte.

As mandated by Section 496 of Republic Act (RA) 7160 or the Local Government Code of 1991, the league of municipalities is formed to address municipal government administration concerns.

With the theme “Pagkakaisa ng LMP Laban sa Droga, Korapsyon at Kriminalidad”, LMP members from all regions in the country aligned their platforms for this year in accordance to the programs of the present administration.

Department of Interior and Local Government (DILG) Secretary Ismael Sueno, LMP National President and Socorro Municipal Mayor Maria Fe Brondial from Oriental Mindoro were also present during the event.
