President Benigno S. Aquino III recognized the role of each local government unit (LGU) across the country in nation building, inclusive growth, and economic stability as he graced the general assembly of the League of Municipalities of the Philippines (LMP) at the Manila Hotel.

As he spoke before hundreds of mayors from the different regions in the Philippines, President Aquino gave his warmest gratitude to the LMP members in organizing such an assembly as this is a great venue for leaders to discuss diverse agendas to further uplift the standard of living of every Filipino. In return, he assured to empower the local government and the national institution.

With good governance and the continuous growth of the economy, President Aquino reported on how the government is able to fund several public services such as the Pantawid Pamilyang Pilipino Program, where 4.4 million Filipinos are currently benefiting; the PhilHealth program, and addressing the backlogs of classrooms, chairs, and textbooks to uplift the quality of education.

Likewise, he mentioned several infrastructure projects he inherited from the previous administrations that were unfinished, but due to his initiatives, these were finally completed like the Aluling Bridge in Ilocus Sur and Lullutan Bridge in Isabela.

However, he challenged every LGU to make sure that this growth is sustainable and to always maintain the straight path of change.
