President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. emphasized the need to prioritize the semiconductor and electronics industry as he presided over the first meeting with the Private Sector Advisory Council-Education and Jobs Sector Group (PSAC-EJSG) at the State Dining Room in Malacañan Palace.
Convening with concerned government agencies and representatives from the private sector, the meeting focused on updates and proposals concerning industry growth, education and workforce development.
President Marcos Jr. emphasized the need to prioritize the semiconductor industry because of its significant economic potential, highlighting the importance of leveraging export revenues. He called for collaboration with industry stakeholders to identify necessary actions and incentives, noting that existing laws like CREATE MORE lack specific provisions for semiconductors.
The Chief Executive proposed that a quick implementation through Implementing Rules and Regulations (IRR) would facilitate the introduction of targeted incentives for semiconductor locators, akin to those provided for other sectors, such as car manufacturing.
The PSAC-EJSG also introduced the country’s semiconductor and electronics roadmap and recommended establishing a National Education and Workforce Development Plan (NatPlan), which received the President’s endorsement.
