President Benigno S. Aquino III announced an additional P4.2-billion budget allotment for State University Colleges (SUC) during his attendance at the 18th Founding Anniversary of the Commission on Higher Education (CHED).
According to the President, the additional budget will be used to further improve SUC’s facilities, equipment, educational research and scholarship programs on top of the P238.8 billion budget allotment on basic education this year, which is a 35% increase from 2010’s mere P175 billion. This is also in preparation for the launching of the K to 12 Program that aims to improve the quality of education in the country with an additional 2 years on basic education.
“Ang gusto natin, makapalag ang ating mga graduate sa pandaigdig na merkado –at hindi ito mangyayari kung pipiliting isiksik ang mga kaalaman sa loob ng sampung taon ng basic education,” the President said.
President Aquino also tasked CHED to bring to its attention schools that have a 30% or lower passing rate on nursing licensure exam as this only worsens unemployment and job mismatch in the country.
The President also witnessed the covenant signing ceremony joined by 105 SUC presidents nationwide in support of CHEDs pursuit for higher education reform.
