The final day of the 23rd ASEAN Summit and Related Summits in Brunei Darussalam started with the Member States Leaders, including President Benigno S. Aquino III, meeting their Dialogue Partners from the People’s Republic of China, Japan and Republic of Korea.
Recognizing ASEAN’s central role and leadership in the evolving regional architecture, the ten leaders reaffirmed their commitment to work closely with their external partners in ensuring the maintenance of peace, security, stability and prosperity through the various ASEAN-led processes, including the ASEAN Plus Three Summit.
In the summit, the leaders recalled the relentless efforts of the ASEAN Plus Three in addressing the challenges posed by the Asian financial crisis in 1997 and called on all the parties to remain steadfast and even more united to ensure the economic well-being of the region.
At the same time, the ASEAN Leaders recognized the global dimension of the prevailing economic situation and expressed their commitment to cooperate with the Plus Three countries in ensuring the prosperity and stability of the region through several measures such as the Chiang Mai Initiative Multilateralisation Agreement (CMIM), the ASEAN Plus Three Macroeconomic Research Office (AMRO), the work plan for the implementation of the Asian Bond Markets Initiative (ABMI) New Roadmap+, and the inauguration of the guarantee transaction of the Credit Guarantee and Investment Facility (CGIF), among others.
