President Benigno S. Aquino III paid tribute to the life and legacy of President Manuel Luis Quezon on his 137th birth anniversary.

Among the highlights of the commemoration is the conferment of the Raoul Wallenberg Medal to the former president. It is an award given by the International Raoul Wallenberg Foundation honoring President Quezon’s courage and solidarity when he allowed thousands of Jews to take shelter in the Philippines at the height of the Nazi regime. The recognition was received by his daughter, Maria Zenaida Quezon Avanceña.

President Aquino also led the opening of the modernized Manuel Quezon Museum featuring the memorabilia and political career of the country’s late president. He then toured around the museum to inspect its different facilities such as the hologram of President Quezon delivering his inaugural address, the audio-visual room with a brief documentary about the museum, and various interactive booths.

Together with the National Historical Commission of the Philippines (NHCP) Chairperson Maria Serena Diokno, President Aquino laid a ceremonial wreath in President Quezon’s bust. Also present were House Speaker Feliciano Belmonte, Jr. and local officials of the Quezon City government.
