President Benigno S. Aquino III, together with his fellow Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) Heads of State/Government, ASEAN Secretary General Le Luong Minh, and Prime Minister Narendra Modi of India, attended the 12th ASEAN-India Summit on the first day of the 25th ASEAN Summit and Related Summits held at the Myanmar International Convention Center (MICC).
The discussion focused on the importance to increase the ASEAN-India cooperation on counter terrorism in accordance with the 2003 Joint Statement and achieve the ASEAN-India bilateral trade of US$100 billion by 2015 as targeted in the 10th ASEAN-India Summit in 2012.
The leaders also reviewed the ASEAN-India dialogue relations and mapped out the future direction of cooperation by laying down the new Plan of Action on ASEAN-India Partnership for Peace, Progress and Shared Prosperity in realizing the ASEAN Community Building.
From a sectoral dialogue partnership in 1992, the ASEAN-India dialogue relations went to a full dialogue partnership in 1995 and was further elevated in the convening of the ASEAN-India Summit in 2002.
