December 30, 2024
President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. led the nation in commemorating the 128th anniversary of Dr. Jose P. Rizal’s martyrdom at the Rizal National Monument in the City of Manila.
The event commenced with a flag ceremony, despite the inclement weather, followed by the President laying a wreath at the Monument.
Joining the President were First Lady Louise Araneta-Marcos and their sons — Ilocos Norte 1st District Representative Ferdinand Alexander ‘Sandro’ Marcos III and William Vincent Marcos. Also in attendance were Executive Secretary Lucas Bersamin, Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) Chief of Staff General Romeo Brawner Jr., National Historical Commission of the Philippines (NHCP) Chairperson Regalado Trota Jose Jr. and Manila City Vice Mayor John Marvin ‘Yul Servo’ Nieto.
This year’s commemoration embraced the theme ‘Rizal: Pundasyon ng Kahapon, Isinasabuhay Ngayon’ to honor the national hero’s legacy. The NHCP, in collaboration with various government agencies, organized a series of activities aimed at highlighting Rizal’s enduring impact on the nation’s identity and values.
