President Benigno S. Aquino III honored the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) under the helm of Secretary Rogelio “Babes” Singson as he graced its 117th anniversary celebration held at the quadrangle of the DPWH Central Office.

In his speech, President Aquino thanked DPWH for its contribution in providing an effective and truthful service, as well as for cooperating with the government’s campaign of “Daang Matuwid.” The President also stated that from an image of corruption in the past, the department is now looked upon as an efficient government service institution.

He also emphasized the department’s strategy for reform focusing on their job aspects under the 5Rs — “Right projects, at the Right cost and Right quality, and accomplished at the Right time with the Right people.” He stressed that if there was a government agency that should be imitated, that is working and looking for ways to ease the lives of the people, it would be DPWH.

During the event, the President, assisted by Secretary Singson, led the distribution of the awards to seven (7) compulsory retirees and thirteen (13) DPWH personnel who had rendered 40 years in service.

President Aquino also received from the DPWH Secretary the Quality Management System Registration Certificate proving that DPWH is already an ISO 9001:2008 certified.
