President Benigno S. Aquino III graced the celebration of the 114th anniversary of Manila Bulletin, one of the country’s oldest newspapers, in Intramuros, Manila.

In his speech, President Aquino praised Mania Bulletin for continuously serving as a pillar in print journalism, as it constantly exhibits discernment and accountability through sober and responsible reporting.

“This is what I have always asked of media: to raise the level of public disclosure, instead of fueling unnecessary speculation and negativity that contributes to national apathy,” he said.

Moreover, as the country continues to take greater strides along the path of stability and growth, the President expects Manila Bulletin to maintain their commitment of making their readers understand that progress requires change and being the exponent of it is equivalent to a pledge in journalism, which is to share the good news.

“That is why I’m here today: to celebrate with you, and thank you for being a strong voice, one that dares to tell our people that good things are, indeed, happening,” President Aquino concluded.
