President Benigno S. Aquino III highlighted his achievements in his six-day working visit to the United Kingdom and United Sates of America during his arrival at the NAIA Terminal 2 early this morning.

According to the President, his visit has yielded not less than $2.5-billion equivalent to P100-billion target business investment to enter the country from foreign companies in the UK and US. He said that by attracting foreign investors to expand its business in the country it will result to job creation and employment.

President Aquino also revealed defense and security agreements made with US President Barack Obama and Secretary of State Hillary Clinton on issues surrounding the West Philippine Sea. He said that President Obama himself has stressed the importance of the Philippines as an ally nation, and that he supports the interest of the Philippines to maintain freedom of navigation in the disputed sea while underscoring peaceful negotiations with the rivalled country. Secretary Clinton had also announced that they will help build a national coast watch center in the Philippines and will send additional Peace Corps volunteers.

On the country’s growth and development, President Aquino announced that the Philippines shall be a recipient to a debt-for-nature swap which will relinquish $23-million of debt as long as trees will be planted in exchange. An additional $30-million under the Partnership for Growth program was also granted for the Philippines in support of government programs campaigning against poverty.

The President also expressed his delight in seeing a strong and united Filipino community in both countries. He added that the launching of the US-Filipino Society is a testimony to a growing support for the Philippines to reach its full potential.

“Anim at kalahating araw po tayong nalayo sa inang bayan; 42 hours po dito ay ginugol namin sa loob ng eroplano. Nakita po ninyo: hindi natin sinayang ang pagbiyahe, at talagang isinagad po natin ang buong pagkakataon upang isulong ang ating bayan sa landas ng kasaganahan at pang-malawakang kaunlaran”, the President said.

Accompanying the President were Foreign Affairs Secretary Albert del Rosario, Transportation and Communications Secretary Mar Roxas, Tourism Secretary Mon Jimenez, Presidential Communications Development and Strategic Planning Office Secretary Ricky Carandang and Energy Secretary Rene Almendraz.

Meeting with the Filipino Community in Los Angeles, California

President Benigno S. Aquino III was welcomed by Filipinos residing in Los Angeles and other cities in Southern California during the Filipino Community Meeting in Hilton Hotel, Los Angeles Airport.

President Aquino reported good news about the Philippines to more than one thousand Filipinos present in the meeting. He told that the country will be rice self-sufficient in 2013 and may also be an exporter if typhoons do not hit during harvest season. He also mentioned to them the North Luzon and South Luzon Expressway Connector project that will link Clark, Pampanga and Calamba, Laguna in a one and a half drive.
The President also discussed that his government has provided 21,800 housing units for the members of the Philippine National Police and Armed Forces of the Philippines and will add 31,200 more houses before the end of 2013.

He also mentioned the economic development of our country under his administration including the 6.4 percent GDP growth in the first quarter of 2012, the seven positive rating actions from different credit rating agencies and the 30.6 percent increase of our Foreign Direct Investment.
Furthermore, President Aquino also stated other social programs of the government for poor Filipinos such as the Pantawid Pamilyang Pilipino Program (4Ps) and the provision of 45,000 more classrooms in different areas of the country.

He said that all developments in the Philippines are attributed to good governance and incorrupt leadership. “Pagbabago po ang aking ipinangako; pagbabago ang tinatamasa natin ngayon; pagbabago ang gusto kong ipamana sa papalit sa akin sa puwesto at sa susunod na salinlahi ng Pilipino,” the President said.

In a 2010 census report conducted by the U.S. Census Bureau, a total of 322,110 Filipinos are currently residing in Los Angeles City, the largest number of Filipino community in the United States. Most of them are employed in the fields of accounting, engineering, government service, media and non-profit organizations.

President Benigno S. Aquino III together with the Philippine media arrived at the Los Angeles International Airport onboard PR 001 after his meeting with U.S. President Barack Obama in Washington D.C.

The President headed straight to Hilton Hotel, Los Angeles Airport for a gathering with around 1,000 members of the Filipino Community in L.A. He is scheduled to meet two Filipino-blooded international talents Black Eyed Peas singer Allan Pineda a.k.a. Apl.de.Ap and American Idol Season 11 first runner-up Jessica Sanchez.

President Aquino was received by Consul General Mary Jo Bernardo-Aragon of the Los Angeles Philippine Consulate General and Los Angeles Tourism Director Annie Cuevas Lim.

He is scheduled to fly back to Manila after a three-leg state visit in London, U.K. Washington D.C and Los Angeles City, U.S.A.

Call by the Citi Group and USAID on Mobile Financial Inclusion Proposal

On the third day of President Benigno S. Aquino III working visit in Washington, the President met with the officers of both Citi Group and the USAid, namely USAid Administrator Rajiv Shah, Vice Chair of Citi Group Jay Collins, Citi Group Country Manager Sanjiv Vohra, Maura O’neill and Gloria Steel of USAid, in Washington D.C.

In their meeting, the group discussed the proposed project investment that aims to promote mobile banking especially in the rural areas where there is limited internet coverage but a number of mobile phone users. The proposed investment is set to shift payments from manual and physical payments to the use of electronic payments which includes the use of smart-cards, mobile-money, and digital banking. The project is said to be beneficial to the client as it is cost it is cost saving, more transparent as it helps track financial flow, more secured as payments are delivered on-line free from elements and it issues receipts.

President Benigno S. Aquino III graced the launching of the US-Philippine Society held at the Mandarin Oriental Hotel in Washington, D.C.

Seen as a fitting representation to something that is generally new, President Aquino was guest of honor to the launching of the US-Philippine Society for his total commitment  to good governance and anti-corruption campaign.

“I emphasized  the enduring basis of our country’s friendship: democracy, and shared values based on equality and mutual respect. No other country in my part of the world has the same shared history with America or is anchored in the same democratic culture as the Philippines,” he said in his speech.

He also cited the seven positive credit ratings actions from known credit ratings agencies such as Standard & Poor’s, Fitch, and the Japan Credit Ratings Agency — the latest being a credit outlook upgrade from Moody’s announced just last week.

During the occasion, the President also confered to US Senator Richard Lugar the Order of Lakandula with the Rank of Supremo for his principled and consistent support to freedom, democracy, the peace process, and the strengthening of Philippine defense capabilities.

The US-Philippines Society was founded last May through the collective interest of both Filipinos and Americans in an effort to raise the profile of the Philippines in the United States. It is a nonprofit and nongovernmental organization that is being sustained by contributions coming from both Filipino and American entities, individuals, and businesses.

President Benigno S. Aquino III arrived at the Andrews Air Force Base in Washington, D.C. onboard Philippine Airlines flight PR001 at 8:23 pm (Washington Time) after his succesful trip in the United Kingdom.

President Aquino is in the United States of America to embark on a four-day working visit that aims to further bilateral cooperation between the two ally nations and discuss the close strategic, economic and people to people ties between the two countries.

His visit was upon the personal invitations of US President Barack Obama and Department State Secretary Hilary Clinton made last year.

During his arrival, the President was welcomed by Ambassador Capricia Penavic Marshall, Chief Protocol of the US Department State, Amabassador Jose L. Cuisia, and Brigadier General Cesar Yano, Defense and Armed Forces Attaché. He was also greeted by the Filipino community whom he gladly received before leaving for his hotel.

President Benigno S. Aquino III left for his first official visit to the United Kingdom (June 4-6) and a working visit to the United States (June 6-10).

In London, the President is set to meet Prime Minister David Cameron and thank him in supporting Philippine economic development. He will also hold business meetings with leading British and European investors.

“Malawig po ang serbisyong maaaring maihatid ng Pilipinas sa mga investors na ito, lalo na sa larangan ng information technology at business process outsourcing, renewable energy, electronics at PPP projects,” the President said in his departure speech.

For his four-day working visit to Washington D.C. and Los Angeles, California, President Aquino will hold meetings with US President Barack Obama, US Secretary of State Hilary Clinton, business leaders and other government officials to discuss ways in deepening bilateral cooperation.

“Makakasiguro po kayo: sa pitong araw na pagbisita natin sa UK at US, kapakanan lamang ng sambayan ang pagtutuunan natin ng pansin,” he remarked.

Eight Cabinet members from the Departments of Foreign Affairs, Finance, Defense, Trade and Industry, Tourism, Transportation and Communications, Energy and the Presidential Communications Development and Strategic Planning Office joined the President onboard.
