President Benigno S. Aquino III administered the oath of office to Sonia Cataumber Brady as new Ambassador to the People’s Republic of China with jurisdiction over the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea and Mongolia.

Other government officials who also took their oaths of office were Court of Appeals Associate Justices Joseph Lopez, Ma. Luisa Quijano Padilla and Renato Francisco; Deputy Ombudsman Gerard A. Mosquera; Department of Budget and Management Assistant Secretary Gil Montalbo; Philippine National Police Deputy Director Generals Emelito Sarmiento and Rommel Heredia; PNP Police Directors Elpidio de Asis Jr., Samuel Diciano, Gil Meneses, Felipe Rojas Jr., and Arnulfo Perez; and Police Chief Superintendents Roland Vicente, Diosdado Ramos, Fernando Idio, Ronilo Quebrar, Fidel Posadas, Percival Barba, Sonny Cunanan and Raul Petrasanta.

The President also swore in newly elected officials of the National Press Club. They were Benny Antiporda, president; Marlon Purificacion, vice president; Jerry Yap, treasurer; Rolly Gonzalo, auditor; Mina Navarro, Alvin Murcia, Joel Sy-Egco, Paul Gutierrez, Ronniel de Guzman, Arlie Calalo, Ma. Kristina Maralit and Leonel Abasola as directors.

Oath-taking of Appointed Government Officials

President Benigno S. Aquino III led the oath-taking ceremony of eighteen newly-appointed government officials at the Rizal Hall in Malacañan Palace.

Among those sworn in by the President are Secretary Arsenio Balisacan who is the new Director-General of the National Economic and Development Authority (NEDA), Ambassador Domingo Lee and Ambassador Cesar Zalamea who are the Special Envoys of the President to the People’s Republic of China (PROC).

Vice Admiral Edmund Tan is the new Commandant of the Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) while three rear admirals of the PCG also took their oath namely, Rear Admirals Cecil Chen, Lino Dabi and Luis Tuason, Jr.

Nine officials representing the Fisherfolk and Fishworkers Sector, Commercial Fishing/Aquaculture Operators and Processing Sector, the Academe, and the NGOs involved in Fisheries of the National Fisheries & Aquatic Resources Management Council under the Department of Agriculture were also sworn into office by the President.

Deputy Executive Director V Ferdinand Tolentino of the NEDA Public-Private Partnership Center and Optical Media Board Member Elmar Ingles representing the Consumer Organizations joined the nine fisheries officials in taking their oath before President Aquino.

Mass Oath-taking Ceremony

President Benigno S. Aquino III administered the oath-taking ceremony of the new officials of the Armed Forces of the Philippines and Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao Regional Legislative Assembly in Malacañang.

Among the members of newly-appointed armed forces officers are Gen. Jessie Dellosa as AFP Chief of Staff, Lt. Gen. Irineo Espino as AFP Inspector General, Lt. Gen. Lauro Catalino dela Cruz as Commanding General of the Philippine Air Force and other seventeen AFP leaders.

Meanwhile, Mr. Rajam Akbar of the Lone District of Basilan led the twenty-six sworn members of the ARMM-RLA.

President Benigno S. Aquino III, Chairman of the Liberal Party (LP), witnessed the mass oath-taking ceremony of 231 LP recruits, 12 of whom hold mayoral seats in the region.

In his message, President Aquino rallied the newly sworn in members to actively join him in advocating a corrupt-free government. He said that by joining the administrative party, they are offering their whole commitment in making the party’s idealisms realized.

“Pag inimbita kayo sa aming partido, sumama kayo dito, yun ang hinahanap natin. Pero kung sasama kayo dito para makilaro sa musical chairs, huwag na lang. Pero kung sumasama kayo dito dahil ayaw niyo ng kasalukuyang dinatnan natin, kung palagay niyo may nagbabago dito, magsama tayo,” the President said.

President Aquino also detailed some of the anomalous dealings he uncovered regarding a bridging contract with a foreign company which was arranged a day before the previous administration stepped down. He added that by strongly taking guard against corruption it ensures a generation free of problems that plagues the country today.

After his attendance, President Aquino inspected the Bacolod Silay Airport.

Joining the President during the ceremony were LP’s aspiring senatorial candidate Akbayan Representative Riza Hontiveros-Baraquel, LP President and Department of Trade and Industry Secretary Mar Roxas, Senator Franklin Drillon, and Department of Interior and Local Government Secretary Jesse Robredo.
