Arrival at Phnom Penh International Airport

President Benigno S. Aquino III arrived at Phnom Penh International Airport in Cambodia past ten in the evening to attend and take part at the 20th Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) Summit and the Celebration of the 45th Anniversary of ASEAN.
Philippine Ambassador to the Kingdom of Cambodia Noe Wong received and welcomed the President at the airport together with Secretaries Cesar Purisima (Finance), Gregory Domingo (Trade and Industry), and Mar Roxas (Transportation and Communication), who are part of President Aquino’s delegation.
In an earlier interview, Ambassador Wong said, the discussions of the ten (10) leaders of ASEAN will revolve around its purpose of attaining One ASEAN Community, which is composed of three (3) pillars: the ASEAN Political Security Community, the Economic Community and the ASEAN Socio-Cultural Community. This year’s summit will also discuss the initiatives and action plans that address current issues and concerns of the region.

President Benigno S. Aquino III left the country for a two day visit to Cambodia to attend the 20th Association of Southeast Asian Nations (Asean) summit. This is the first foreign visit of the President for the year and his first visit to the Cambodia.
In his speech, the President said that he will raise issues affecting the region like drugs. He said that he will suggest for an ASEAN Human Rights Declaration and the creation of the ASEAN Coordinating Center for Humanitarian Assistance. He also plans to strengthen cooperation for a more effective Disaster Risk Reduction and Management. President Aquino also said that he will also push for a peaceful advocacy to protect the integrity of our territory and ask for the mplementation of the Declaration on the Conduct of Parties in th South China Sea.
