ATTENDANCE AT THE 14th ASEAN SUMMIT

President Gloria Macapagal Arroyo attends the 14th Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) Summit at Hua Hin and Cha Am Districts in Thailand to reiterate her call for developing economies to have a greater role in dealing with the global financial turmoil.

Leaders, finance and economic ministers of the ten ASEAN member economies are expected to sign or adopt at least 25 declarations, agreements and statements that will set the roadmap for an ASEAN Community until 2015.

This annual gathering of Southeast Asian nations includes Brunei, Cambodia, Indonesia, Lao PDR, Malaysia, Myanmar, Philippines, Singapore, Thailand and Vietnam as members. It has promoted peace and stability in the region and enhanced sustainable growth and development among its members since its founding 41 years ago.

Thailand’s chairmanship of the 14th ASEAN Summit carries the theme, “ASEAN Charter for ASEAN Peoples.”
