STATE VISIT TO BRAZIL
Saturday, 20 June 2009 14:10
22-25 June 2009

President Gloria Macapagal Arroyo embarks on her first state visit to Brazil in South America on June 22-25 2009.  The first leg of the President's visit is in the municipality of Recife, meaning "reef" in Portuguese and refers to the line of coral reefs that protect the shores. Recife is the capital of the state of Pernambuco.

While there, President Arroyo is expected to visit Suape Container Terminal (SCT), the largest and most modern facility for container operations in north and northeastern Brazil.

From there, the president proceeds to Brasilia, the capital of Brazil, for the official functions of the president as a state guest. Several MOAs between governments, specifically in Agriculture, are expected to be signed.

In the last leg of her state visit, President Arroyo stops at Rio de Janeiro to meet executives from Vale (formerly Companhia Vale do Rio Doce), one of Brazil's biggest corporations.
